In Orlando, Florida, Barbara West of WFTV did her second interview with Joe Biden during the current Presidential campaign on Saturday, October 24. Ms. West asked Senator Biden questions about Senator Obama's statement regarding the "distribution of wealth" while talking with "Joe the plumber" and Senator Biden's comment about Obama "will be tested his first 6 months as President". For some reason, Biden and the Obama camp were so affronted, they have denied any reporter from the affiliate access to the candidates or their representatives for the remainder of the campaign and the near future. Why?
Is it not a reporters job to ask the questions on people's minds? Even if you agree or disagree with a candidate, consistently asking "softball" questions (ie, where did you buy that great tie, who do you most admire, when do you have time to sleep, etc) doesn't bring forth the information we as citizens need to make informed decisions in this election. The United States and the world are going through some incredible times right now. Is it not our duty to elect a candidate that most reflects our beliefs and wants? Why did Senator Biden become offended? The questions she asked were not insulting. They were unusual, to be sure, but not offensively asked. Ms. West was not critical only doing what a responsible journalist is supposed to do, ask questions. Is not their mantra "The public has a right to know..."
What really amazed me, is that after being able to watch the interview on the ABC affiliate's own website, that link is no longer available for viewing. Again, I ask why? After searching this morning on the websites for ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, CNN, Fox News and AP, all national media outlets, only ABC and Fox News carry any information about the interview whatsoever. Now the only way you can see the interview is by going to YouTube. What is the reason for the censorship? Why does the mainstream media feel it is more important to have an article on what Governor Palin wears than to hear directly from Senator Biden? I had thought Senator Biden's responses were articulate and well thought out even though he appeared to be uncomfortable. So again I ask, why the censorship?
